A little about me…..
I’m Janet and I’m married with a grown up daughter, I live in a town in the north of England but I’m convinced I belong in the middle of the countryside or by the sea!
I love open spaces, black coffee, colourful shoes, getting lost in a good book, foggy days, frosty mornings, meeting people and hearing their stories, creativity of all different types, learning new stuff….
I really don’t love bad manners, crowded spaces, moths, being the other side of a camera…
I used to be an accountant with a deep rooted belief that I was supposed to be doing something else.
I fell in love with photography in 2009 and it literally changed my life.
Early in 2012 I found myself unexpectedly launching a photography business. I say unexpectedly because I’d never imagined myself being self employed and the leap from accountant to professional photographer was not one I would have ever thought I’d be brave enough to make. But life has a funny way of working out sometimes!
Some rather wonderful things have happened since I launched my business…..
I’ve met some great people through shoots, projects, workshops and training, many new friends have been made and lots of them are photographers.
Won the Image of the Year competition with The Guild of Photographers, both categories, out of around 10,000 entries. I think that’s the only time in my life that I’ve literally been in shock!
I’ve been featured several times in local newspapers.
Written columns for, and been featured in, regional magazines.
Been a guest on BBC radio. Yes me with my broad northern accent! Good job it was Lancashire radio and people could understand me.
Since 2012 my business has changed and evolved. I discovered that my personal photography was very important to me, without it I can’t grow and develop as a creative person, and so this blog was born. I also realised that there is nothing I find more satisfying than inspiring others and igniting their passion for photography and supporting them on their own photographic journey.
I’m inspired by everyday life and believe there is beauty to be found everywhere. I see beauty in imperfections and love things that are old and faded, worn and tired. I love to shoot with Lensbabies and vintage lenses.
If you are looking for a little inspiration yourself have a browse through the blog, sign up for the free online course or maybe join in with the daily photo prompts. Or take a look at Afternoon Light, the online photography club.
